The Series 3400A MUX/DEMUX units provide a variety of configurations that can be tailored to a wide range of applications. Input signals can include a mix of serial digital data, analog data, audio data, time code signals and virtually any source that can be converted into a digital format.
Equally flexible is the link between the MUX and DEMUX. Various tape recorder interfaces support linear and helical scan recorders. The standard bit serial along with special interfaces facilitate operation on fiber optic, satellite modem and DS3 communication channels for example.
Units can be configured as FULL DUPLEX or as SIMPLEX. The advantage of SIMPLEX is that all 7 card slots in the standard 7" high chassis may be used to implement a larger number of channels. Other chassis sizes are also available.
This equipment is based on an implementation of the CCSDS Packetized Telemetry Recommendations. By decoupling the data ingest process from the multiplexed, physical layer of interface, changing one does not affect the other. Use of common data transport structures and protocols enhance the interoperability of this multiplexed data and existing systems. This implementation keeps reconstructed channel-to-channel skew to a minimum while reducing throughout latency.
The unit also contains a Bit Error Rate Tester as standard equipment for verifying channel operations. An alpha-numeric front panel display allows the operator to control and monitor operations while an RS232 remote control is also provided.
The Mux/Demux may be used to reduce the number of channels required in a record system. It can also be used as a full duplex data transmission multiplexer.
